    • About Southampton

Like most cities on the south coast, Southampton enjoys a rich and profitable history with the sea.

Today these links carry on with the city not only the Cruise capital of Europe, but also boasting one of the most successful commercial ports in the country. Not wanting to miss out on the nautical fun, the University of Southampton is the proud home of the National Oceanographic Centre, one of the world’s leading centres of ocean and marine science.

The uni in general has an accomplished academic record all round, and with strong regional and international industry links it’s one of the top ten research-led unis in the UK. Based around six campuses, the main site is the Highfield Campus which spreads across the landscaped grounds and features excellent sporting facilities. Two further campuses are close by, and four are within a stone’s throw of Southampton Common, the perfect place for spring time exam revision, picnics and football.

Southampton Solent University have invested more £40 million in their campus over the last five years alone, it’s no surprise that their state-of–the-art facilities are so popular with current and prospective students alike.

Southampton’s gigging scene has brought in acts like Oasis and Coldplay before they made it massive, and it’s a stopping point on most tours. There’s plenty of life to be found in students and locals here, with late night clubbing and bars for all tastes and trends. The seaside locale brings some of the best watersports around, and every year the city hosts of one of the largest boat shows in the world!
