About University of South Wales

With more than 30,000 students the University of South Wales (USW) is a major player in UK higher education - one of the UK's ten biggest campus universities by student number.

With campuses in Cardiff, Pontypridd and Newport, the University is renowned for its partnerships with major employers. These partnerships are one of the many reasons that 94% of our students are in employment or further study within six months of graduating.

Our students voted the University as one of the top 10 UK universities at the WhatUni? Student Choice Awards 2016.

Employability is at the heart of everything we do. We seek to ensure you’ll be ready to start a successful career as soon as you graduate. We’ve even made employability part of the curriculum, with teaching informed by what happens in the real world and skills you’ll need for the workplace.

But learning isn’t just about books and theories work experience is a key part of your education. We make sure you have every opportunity to experience the workplace and put what you learn into practice. It’s an approach that works. 95% of our graduates are in employment or further study within six months of graduation – a figure well above the UK average. You can find our graduates all over the world, building strong careers and making a difference in their chosen field.

Our students learn about their profession in environments that recreate the workplace, using the same equipment and software they’ll find there too. This approach ensures you’ll be ready for the workplace and have the confidence to succeed. Wherever you look, you’ll find industry standard equipment and exciting places to learn new things. From a Clinical Simulation Centre and an aircraft hangar, to photography, music and TV studios, you’ll gain essential skills using

Research at the University of South Wales makes a real difference. It provides solutions to problems and informs key decisions that affect society, culture and the economy.

In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, half of our research was rated world-leading or internationally excellent. We’re also among UK leaders in many fields, including social policy, sports and exercise sciences, and the creative industries. We offer a rich resource of expertise, which is called on by government, industry and the public sector to provide fresh thinking and new evidence. This all means you’ll be taught by lecturers who are at the forefront of their fields, giving you a window to the latest thinking and developments.

We have three campuses throughout the region, making us the largest university in Wales. With campuses in Pontypridd, Newport and Cardiff, you can enjoy all that south Wales has to offer – city life and culture, stunning beaches and breathtaking countryside.

If location is everything, we’ve got it covered. You’ll find our Pontypridd Campus in the heart of south Wales, just 10 miles from Cardiff. South Wales is a welcoming place to study and our students love the friendly atmosphere on our campuses. They’re all easily reached by road, rail and air, so wherever you come from you’re never far from home.
