About The University of Aberdeen

The wide variety of courses, combined with our flexible student-centred approach, offers you many advantages, especially if you have not quite made up your mind what to study.

An Aberdeen degree provides you with the opportunity to study a broad range of courses across our disciplines and gives a huge amount of flexibility. A Scottish Honours degree normally takes four years, but if you have very good qualifications you can be admitted to the second year of study in many of our degree programmes, enabling you to complete an Honours degree in three years. In some cases it is even possible to enter the third year of a degree programme.

Flexibility and individuality are our real strengths. We know from experience that flexibility is very important in preparing our students for a world today in which new graduates need a wide range of knowledge, understanding and skills.

At Aberdeen, you are admitted to a degree course rather than to a subject or department. You can usually study any subjects which interest you and even change direction as your interests and ambitions develop. This applies especially to MA and BSc students. Beginning with a broad base of three or four subjects - traditional in the Scottish degree - gives you the freedom to plan your own programme from a wide range of options. So you can mix, match and switch subjects as you discover new interests on the route to your tailor-made degree.
