About New Model in Technology and Engineering
The New Model in Technology & Engineering NMITE
NMITE the UK's first new greenfield university in 40 years with consulting taking place on its curriculum with education leaders and stakeholders.
As the title suggests NMITE focuses on Engineering but with an alternative approach to delivering qualifications within this sector.
Study programmes aim to be more condensed with greater student flexibility in study choice. This will include fast-track degrees and a new condensed Masters.
Traditional STEM Standard entry requirements will also be relaxed and covered as part of the programme of study. The university will be situated in a purpose build campus within the Hereford city centre.
David Sheppard, co-leader of the Development Team, said, “NMiTE will radically change the way engineering is taught in Britain to help tackle the growing shortage of graduate engineers, especially those with the broad range of additional applied analytical thinking, innovation, interpersonal and leadership skills that employers seek.
Hereford’s centre is intimate. Our campus will be the same. From one side to the other will be no more than twelve minutes walk. We expect to see redundant shops turned into seminar spaces and old offices with the right floor plans converted into studio/work labs for 20-30 students no lecture halls, no mass classroom settings.
NMITE will be developing an “agile” campus including academic, administrative and all new student accommodation buildings in Hereford City and labs and workshops on Hereford’s Enterprise Zone
