New Exeter Student Apartments in Construction
Construction has started on a multi-million pound student housing development at the Exeter cricket club site.
Midas Construction has been on site at Exeter Cricket Club for a month and has already begun bulk groundworks for the £8million development, which will contain a halls of residence with room for 159 students.
Alan Hope, the Chief Executive at Midas, said: “This is an exciting new development, which will not only offer more modern accommodation for those studying at the nearby University of Exeter but also a brand new cricket pavilion protecting the future of Exeter Cricket Club,”
The ground is owned by a family trust which has allowed Devon County Cricket Club and then Exeter Cricket Club to play there rent free since 1902. Officials said without the new flats the future of Exeter Cricket Club, the only wholly amateur club in the Devon Premier Division, could have been in jeopardy.
Construction of the new Exteter Student Accommodation is expected to be complete in time for the start of 2016/17 academic year.
