About Toowoomba
Situated in the Great Dividing Range escarpment, Toowoomba is Australia's largest inland regional city and resides south of the regions capital Brisbane.
With a population of over 90,000 Toowoomba is the economic epicentre of Darling Downs- a vast expanse of rich farming land. The city’s industry is focused around agriculture and manufacturing and Toowoomba is home to the University of South Queensland.
Toowoomba is noted for its green spaces and as such has been referred to as the Garden City. Tree lined streets make way for parks and botanic gardens including the largest traditional Japanese Garden in Australia, The Ju Raku En and every September this is celebrated in the Carnival of Flowers, street parade and festival. Being a mountain city the views and walks are spectacular with views of Table Top Mountain and the Lockyer Valley region.
Situated along the eastern rim of the city are Toowoomba’s Escarpment parks. Here you can escape the city and enjoy a walk, cycle or a picnic with friends, with a firm favourite being Picnic Point. Toowoomba has recently become more known for its youthful vibe and has seen a surge in trendy cafes, bars and eateries popping up across the city.
The art scene is also on the rise here too and street art is featured highly throughout the city’s streets including famous and must see murals, The Elephant and the Mouse and the Indigenous boy.
Food wise the city does not disappoint and cuisine for all tastes can be found in and around the city. Dining out and socialising in bars and cafes will leave you spoilt for choice with both traditional and modern offerings, with downtown Toowoomba being the place to go or alternatively the city’s new grand central mall offers everything under one roof with high street shops and trendy bars.
For entertainment Toowoomba is Small, clean and green Toowoomba is a beautiful alternative to the bigger Australian cities. Its climate is world class and all the seasons can be appreciated here, walks in the city parks, party in the city bars or escape enjoy the mountainous views, there is something for very mood in Toowoomba.
