    • About Fremantle

Located just 30 minutes from Perth City, Fremantle has long been renowned for its eclectic mix of arty and alternative types. Fremantle's streets buzz with the song of buskers, the sidewalks fill with a wild collection of art and music floats out from trendy cafés and bars.

The Whadjuk Noongar people have tens of thousands of years of history in the area, living on the land long before the Europeans arrived in 1829. Convicts were brought in later to build the settlement from the ground up. Three-thousand Heritage-listed buildings remain, such as the Henderson Street warders’ cottages, the notorious Roundhouse penitentiary, and the Fremantle Prison.

The sea breeze will draw you to Esplanade Park and across it to the port. There, you’ll find the ultimate fish and chip strip, with huge restaurants filling renovated wharfs and silos. Fremantle has a wonderful nightlife with several clubs, pubs and bars that play live music until the early hours.
