About Derby
The University of Derby offers a variety of courses, with undergraduates having huge flexibility in the units they take – leading to some bizarre joint-degree titles.
They offer courses and learning right from the age of 16, with a commitment to the local community as well students coming from afar. The city of Derby comes in for some stick aesthetically, but with civic improvements across the city and Derby based students have a wealth of drinking establishments, SU venues and nightclubs to lose their loans, and local rivals Nottingham host all the established and up-and-coming bands you could ever want.
The Buxton campus was opened by Prince Charles, and houses over a thousand in an old converted hospital complex… and also boasts a dome structure bigger than St Pauls – take that London! Almost 60% (statistics vary year on year) of the student population are female, giving the Derby sports teams more than just football matches to worry about, and with the city hosting annual summer and winter beer and real ale festivals, visits from dads, uncles and family are likely – giving ample opportunity to beg free meals and emergency loans.
