About Edge Hill University
Edge Hill College opened in Liverpool in 1885 as the first non-denominational teacher training college for women.
From its origins as a specialist institution with 41 female trainee teachers, Edge Hill now has 26,000 students on a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Edge Hill University boasts a vibrant campus community located in 160 stunning acres near Ormskirk in West Lancashire. Lakes, green spaces and even a beach can be found alongside award winning building developments which reflect almost 130 years of history and innovation.
New buildings help to fulfil our vision of a visually inspiring, sustainable environment, and include the flagship £17 million Creative Edge building, which opened in September 2013, a new Arts Centre building that houses the Rose and Studio Theatres, new Biosciences and Geosciences facilities and a £13.5 million Student Hub.
The transformation will continue during 2014 with phase two of the new £30 million sports complex which will allow students, staff and the local community to enjoy some of the best sports facilities in the country. Facilities will include a 25m swimming pool, 100-station fitness suite, sauna, steam room, aerobics studio, and a multi-court sports hall with viewing gallery.
Our campus has also been independently assessed by the Complete University Guide 2014 to have the lowest crime rates in the North West and be the fifth most crime free university in England and Wales.
